Ava is continuing to adjust to life as a Stubblefield. As the pictures will show, she had a very good breakfast as a rough night. She woke a few times through the night just crying. Once we got her to breakfast and began feeding her, she became a happier little girl. She continues to display bonding with Tammy but she also displays her grief. Whenever Tammy leaves the room, she begins to cry. But she will also stand at the door crying mama. She allowed me to hold her twice today but then she also took my finger, led me to the door, and handed me shoes so that she could leave. We know that she will eventually understand that we are her forever family. Continue to keep her in your prayers.
After breakfast, we headed to the local grocery store to pick up a few needed items. We definitely stand out in the crowd and receive many stares. A few of the stares will be smiles but we are receive very puzzled looks. Ava slept very soundly in her stroller while we shopped. Her stroller was her safe haven today and she did not want to get out of it. The language barrier causes some problems especially when trying to purchase a stroller and we can’t understand why they won’t sell it to us.
After the market, we headed to a local bakery recommended by our guide. Morgan has found his new favorite cheesecake. The problem is I don’t think we will be in Lanzhou, Gansu , very often to get it. So he wants to go back before we leave here on Friday.
Once we returned from the bakery, we found our room to be unbearably hot because the air conditioner had broken. After a few calls and visits from housekeeping, we were told we would need to switch rooms. Tammy suggested asking about getting a larger room since our room was very small and tight with two beds, one rollaway, and a crib. After experiencing another language barrier, I asked our coordinator to contact the hotel and ask how much an upgrade would be. The price was very reasonable and we moved to a two room suite. We now have a living room with a couch and two chairs and a bedroom with a king size bed. We can finally spread out. Life is truly “Suite”.
We are ready to leave Lanzhou and fly to Guangzhou on Friday to meet the rest of our group. However, we know God has placed us here for a reason. It has been a good thing to be the only family here since Ava has had difficulty with her attachment. We have been able to focus all our attention on her and it would be a little difficult to experience other families who are not having attachment issues. We received an email from a dear friend today (thanks Diana) with a verse that we truly needed to hear. We know that it was truly a Word from God. The verse is Ask, and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. John 16:24. Thanks Diana!
We spoke with the boys today and they are having a blast. They have been spending a lot of time in the ocean and are leaving today for Disney World. We have been blessed by a wonderful supportive family. They are keeping the boys busy to keep their minds off of us being gone.

Love the picture of Ava asleep in her stroller! How peaceful! This brought back so many memories for us because that is the same stroller we carted Abby around in during our stay at Lanzhou. We were able to buy a really nice stroller when we got to Guangzhou for about $30 (and the wheels didn't stick!). May the Lord bless you all during your journey. Ava melts my heart...she is beautiful!
