10 years ago on this day......

My first labor with NO drugs....Yowzers!!!

......I looked into the eyes of my darling second born son. Again, I endured a pregnancy plagued with preterm labor from around 20 weeks and was again placed on home monitoring and a continuous terbutline pump. Just a few hours after stopping the medicine, Jackson was about to make his arrival. I called my co-workers on my unit to tell them I was heading in, and they informed me that every birthing room was full and I would have to labor in the hallway!! Um.. I don't think so. Luckily my doctor delivered at a nearby smaller hospital also, so with his permission we headed to the other hospital. Thank God we did, because we were able to have an absolutely awesome birthing experience. My friend and doula, Margie happened to be on duty that night and helped coach me through a rapid labor and delivery. After pushing around 5 minutes, my puffy, red cheeked Jackson took his first breath as I pulled him into my arms.

I cannot begin to explain the depths of my love for my kids or how my first two boys could be so different. Jackson is my little charmer who never meets a stranger. He seems to be an expert on just about every subject he's ever come across. He has always been super sensitive and wears his emotions on his sleeve.
Jackson, from the moment I first discovered you were coming, I have loved you with a love that still amazes me to this day. God has blessed me with the most amazing kids ever created and I know that I will never deserve the blessing of having you as my son!! I love you, chubby cheeks!!

At last!!

Nearly 14 years later

I began a new phase of my life that has brought me to where I am today. I became a mom. On this day 14 years ago, after a long and difficult pregnancy, 5lb 13.5oz Morgan Jesse Stubblefield was placed into my arms. Morgan has always been impatient, even before he was born. Around 17 weeks of gestation, he decided he was done cooking and tried to come early. I was placed on bedrest and medication and was in and out of the hospital several times before I finally hit the 36 week mark. About 4 hours after stopping my medication, I was in labor and admitted to the hospital. We were so excited about seeing our baby girl, Madeline,(confirmed by 3 different ultrasounds) and thrilled beyond belief when Dr. Cruz announced at 6:18am, "It's a boy!!!!"

I still can't believe that beautiful baby boy is 14!! How did this happen?? No matter what he says, he still is and will always be my sweet baby. I love you sweet, sweet boy and your mom is SO proud of the the man you are becoming.

Playing Catch Up!!!

Wow, I've been bad!!! Time for some extreme catch up.
Well, at my last post, we had just left the hospital to surprise the big brothers! Boy were they glad to see us! We packed up their stuff and finally headed home. Our first night was a little scary. Ava spiked another temp of 103 but it finally broke early the next morning. The Friday after we came home, her incision had started opening in one small area, so we had to make another not so quick trip back to Children's. The doc said her incision was a little infected in that small area, but otherwise was healing much quicker than they anticipated, so out came the stitches a week early!
Later that weekend, we took Ava to her first fair, the DuQuoin State Fair. She LOVED it, especially the fair food!
The start of fall also means high school football, so that's where you'll find us nearly every Friday night til the end of October. We have a really good team this year and Ava loves watching cousin Peyton cheer!
This past Saturday, we all went to an AWESOME concert!!! We were lucky enough to get tickets to see "Point of Grace" and Mark Schultz. The boys love hearing his music and he really does put on one fabulous show!
I also included some pics of the kids out at Rend Lake (less than a mile from our house). Chris took them out for a walk yesterday (Sunday) while I stayed home for a much needed nap. Thanks, Hon!
This past week we celebrated 2 months with Ava home. It has flown by and yet seems like she's been here forever, kinda weird to explain. Her vocabulary is unbelievable and she cracks us up everyday with some new word or phrase. Right now, she's in the "Why?" phase. She asks "Why?' to everything!! "Ava, stop unrolling the toilet paper."..... "Why?"....."Ava, time for lunch."...... "Why?" You get the idea!
Oh, almost forgot to add that we had our post-op visit last Thursday with the neurosurgeon and he said, " See ya' next summer!" Hallelujah!!! No more docs for a while!!!
Thanks for listening to me ramble, will update soon! Just got the news that we've been sprung!
Ready to get outta here!

Hospital day # 4

Every day gets us closer to home. This morning around 3ish, the nurses came in to do vitals and I woke up floating next to Ava. She had overflowed her diaper and flooded the bed and when doing so, most likely saturated her dressing on her lower back. The doc came in to change her dressing and said he wanted to observe her to make sure it was urine and not spinal fluid leaking from her incision. He said that if it was spinal fluid, it would buy us another couple of days in the hospital. Needless to say, Chris and I began changing diapers every 30 minutes to make sure that dressing stayed dry, and wouldn't you know it that as soon as we had her diaper off during a change, she starts peeing everywhere and it flows down to the dressing, UGH! We are still waiting for the doc to come back and reevaluate her.
We had a nice surprise this morning when Aunt Jackie and cousin Taylor stopped by for a visit. The nurses suggested we take a walk, so we went to the Olsen Family Garden on the 8th floor of the hospital. It was gorgeous!!!! And, it was a gorgeous day, high 70's in August!!! Soon after they left, Ma Ma, Pa Pa and big brothers arrived.
After her bath, Ava's nurse stopped her IV fluids completely, one less tube!! While my mom watched Ava, Chris, the boys and I actually walked down the street and enjoyed a dinner from St. Louis Bread Company. What a nice break it was. We are praying that we will be finally released tomorrow. She seems to be doing so well and is only using Tylenol for pain control (She's my hero) and I really think we should be good to go! I will update tomorrow with hopefully wonderful news!!

Hospital day #3

We've had a big day today but I guess I need to backtrack a little. Last night we got a much needed visit from Chris and the boys. Mom and I ran up to the Ronald McDonald family room, which was absolutely beautiful, and took nice, long .hot showers. We came back down, ordered Ava some room service (whenever the pt is hungry, you just call down your order) and had a wonderful time visiting. Everyone got teary eyed when it was time for our good-byes. I cannot wait till we are back home and together. After they left, I crashed! It felt good to finally get some sleep. Around 3am, Ava's temp spiked to over 103 so another dose of Tylenol followed. The Tylenol worked but we still had to get a UA, blood cultures, and a CBC. The Dr. came in this morning and said that she could slowly start increasing her activity and start by laying in my arms, WOO HOO!!! He also discontinued her Fentanyl, which helped significantly with her grumpiness. The nurse asked if she would be more comfortable if we put her in a regular bed so I could snuggle with her, "uh....Ya she would!" She loves the big bed. Around noon, I was able to slowly scoop up our angle and sit with her in the chair and it was pure heaven. She never fussed one bit about the pain, such a brave girl. We learned also that she does have a urinary tract infection so they started her on another antibiotic. We can't have the IV taken out yet since she's still not taking fluids in real great and because of her high temp last night, but the catheter did come out. The nurse also found quite a bit more drainage on her dressing this afternoon so the doc came in to assess it and change the bandages. He said if she had more drainage, then she would have to lay flat again, so start praying for no more drainage!!! Chris came up to spend the night here so my mom could take a break. My sis Jen also surprised us with a visit from her family. Right before bedtime tonight, our nurse came in and said a private room had become available and we were moved immediately. Oh it's so nice! We are able to relax so much easier now! Lots of big steps today. Please pray that we continue to move forward tomorrow!!! Good night from one tired mommy!
